Marketing and Communications Manager at Science Center

Summary Under the direction of the Vice President of Development and Marketing the Marketing and Communications Manager will be key to the science center s efforts to market and promote McWane Science Center across multiple channels. This role is instrumental in implementing public relations and social media marketing as well as strategizing with the Development Marketing team on the most effective overall marketing and communication plan and strategy including messaging design ideas and other strategic communication efforts. The goal is to sustain and grow admissions brand mission awareness and a diverse audience basis. This position will also guide and support media and sponsorship relations. This team member will work with individuals and departments throughout the organization to understand all of the many programs exhibits movies and events at the museum and to ensure accuracy in all communications.Accountabilities and Major Duties I. Develop manage and maintain social media presence on Facebook Instagram Twitter YouTube LinkedIn and others evaluating each platform for continued relevancy. Identify new social media platforms for inclusion in McWane Science Center s social media repertoire as needed. Send quality messaging that supports the brand standards of McWane Science Center and monitor messages discussions and direct customer interaction when necessary. Ensure content is creative and ready for dissemination on these platforms. II. Develop non-sales contact lists for public and media relations and create relationships with these contacts to help support organization promotion strategies.III. Develop and implement public and media relations strategies that generate measurable coverage and enhanced reputation for McWane Science Center and our mission. This will include the development and distribution of press releases physical and digital press kits when necessary pitching stories coordinating interviews for the CEO and VP of Development with various media outlets print digital television and radio. Serve as the media point of contact from a non-sales capacity.IV. Take pictures regularly to ensure we have a collection of stock photography.V. Work with development team members to support the recognition and promotion of our sponsors and donors.VI. Work in collaboration with the marketing and development team members to create a marketing plan and messaging strategy to streamline and coordinate marketing and communication efforts.Minimum Qualifications 1. Bachelor s degree. 2. Competency and experience with social media strategy content development and delivery. 3. Strong oral and written communication skills. 4. Strong relationship development skills. 5. Strong organizational and planning skills ability to make decisions and initiative. 6. Ability to speak effectively in a public setting. 7. Familiarity of key local regional and national media. 8. Ability to maintain effective relationships with staff volunteers and guests. 9. Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with a team spirit. 10. Ability to maintain a flexible work schedule including some nights weekends and holidays. 11. Ability to work independently. 12. Proficiency in word-processing use of the internet and common social media outlets. 13. Must possess a valid Alabama driver s license. 14. Must pride proof of minimum liability insurance as required by state law.Minimum Physical Qualifications 1. Perform work utilizing a computer for extended periods of time. 2. Visual acuity 3. Hearing proficiency 4.
