I am offering an original (not a reproduction) 1940s brass Taffrail Log Register. These devices were mounted on the boat s taffrail (stern) connected a rotor (by a long line) which was drug through the water. The register converted the rotor s revolutions into nautical miles. This unit was built by Fisher-Pierce Co. Inc. Boston Mass. who began building the famous Boston Whaler boats in 1958. This register measures 7 Long x 3 Tall x 5 Wide weighs 6 pounds and has serial S1584 stamped into the main housing. The 3 dial face is signed as follows NAUTICAL MILES FISHER-PIERCE CO. INC. BOSTON MASS. U.S.A. and has a 0 < 100 mile odometer. The face is covered with a removable convex plastic lens held by a screw-on brass bezel. The bronze swivel register mount has a 3 base mounted on a 7 x 11 x wood display plank. The register appears to be functional but cosmetically the face has some corrosion and paint loss on the miles scale. This unit displays well and is a rare piece of U.S. maritime history.
