Bunker Tankerman

Savage Inland Marine has immediate openings for qualified Tankermen in its Marine Division located in Gibson LA. Savage operates on the Western and Inland Waterways river systems. Vessel employees are scheduled on a 28 day on 14 day off rotation and work two six hour watches each day with six hour rest periods in between watches. Tankerman duties may vary from vessel to vessel and from watch to watch. The Captain sets the watch standing schedule for the crew. The Captain or his Relief must ensure that the Tankerman stands the proper watch and performs the proper duties. These may include but are not limited to the detailed responsibilities below.Transferring and laying rigging handling lines shifting barges dropping or picking up barges and checking the tow Assisting via radio communication to wheelhouse while navigating through locks and bridges Catching a line on deck fittings work lines at locks cast lines free when getting underway and assist in the navigation of the boat from the deck Performing the various tasks necessary to carry out the above such as making a coupling operating winches ratchets line handling splicing and throwing lines Chipping and painting Repairing of flame screens cleaning p v valves greasing winches etc. Other equipment maintenance as needed Cleaning quarters including personal quarters heads companionways wheelhouse and galley Maintaining the barge grease winches dogs on hatch covers etc. All Tankerman will remain on the barge from start to finish while loading and pumping Report any hazardous or unsafe condition to the Captain and making on the spot corrections when capable Have knowledge of measuring the height of cargo in a storage tank Other duties as directed by the Captain or his relief Qualifications Experience as a Tankerman in a marine bunkering operation A minimum of 2 years of experience Holding a Current Valid Tankerman-PIC MMD A valid driver s license with acceptable driving record is required A valid Transportation Workers Identification Credential (T.W.I.C.) is required Must be able to get along with others in close quarters and be flexible to work any schedule is required Additional experience preferred but not requiredUnderstanding of blending operations and knowledge or experience with blending instructions or orders Understanding of barge strappings and able to use both Innage and Ullage Experience and knowledge regarding gauge conversions Innage to Ullage Etc Experience with starting and stop gauging Experience with mooring to ships Experience with utilizing a bunker barge hose boom Experience with sampling cargo Experience with bunkering paper work (specifically Barge Discharge Notice (BDN) Physical RequirementsMust satisfactorily complete a physical exam and drug test Lift an object of 75 pounds from floor to waist level and back down Lift an object of 50 pounds from waist to shoulder Must be able to wear required PPE at all times Bolting an 8-bolt flange together while wearing work gloves Able to use hand or power tool for maintenance or repairs Pull heavy lines hoses Step one step of a distance at least 36 inches one time Climb ladder and or stairs of 15 feet up and down Work outside in weather conditions (ice wind rain snow heat etc) Able to see (if applicable with corrective lenses) objects at various distances and colors
