C.M.A. or R.M.A. Colorado state issued certificate - (Required) Job Goals A Health Technician provides basic health care under the direct supervision of the nurse responsible for providing direct health care. The employee must be able to emotionally and physically work with various types of disabilities including but not limited to diabetes cerebral palsy mental retardation Spina Bifida developmental delay autism Down s syndrome seizure activity and a variety of disabling conditions of students attending public school as directed in the written Healthcare Plan. This position requires someone who is flexible in adapting to changing situations ability to work courteously and cooperatively with administration staff and families work within their scope of practice and to demonstrate respect compassion and caring for children.Essential Job Functions 1. Provide care to students as outlined in the Individualized Health Care Plan. 2. Take vital signs (temperature blood pressure pulse and respiratory rate). 3. Provide direct care such as assisting with bathing eating toileting dressing and walking students. 4. Turn and reposition wheelchair bound students to prevent breakdown of their skin. 5. Record amount of oral intake and measure urinary output. 6. Collect specimens for tests. 7. Interact with students and family. 8. Transport students and equipment as needed. 9. Perform accurate legal and ethical documentation at all times. 10. Monitor students and report any variances to normal to the nurse for further assessment. 11. Maintain confidentiality. 12. Maintain supplies and equipment in the health room. 13. Prepare and administer medication under the supervision of the RN. 14. Administration for insulin via pump or injection under nurse supervision. 15. Follow infectious disease precautions to prevent the spread of organisms. 16. Other job duties as assigned.Performance Functions Health Technicians spend much of their time with students who require assistance with ADL s or medical procedures in order for them to attend school sometimes doing unpleasant work such as changing diapers. They must be compassionate and truly interested in helping others. Other important qualities are patience honesty good health good verbal and written communication skills and the willingness and ability to follow RN directions and delegation. Possesses the knowledge and use of appropriate medical terminology. Ability to follow appropriate legal and ethical professional conduct. Willingness to learn and demonstrate competency in delivering assigned medical procedures. Ability to work cooperatively with staff and administration to support the philosophy goals and objectives of the school district which may include academic support in the classroom. All tools and equipment may not be listed.Salary Health Technicians are a Grade 4 on the Classified Salary Schedule. - FFC8 allows new hires to bring in up to 8 years of previous experience in similar school type settings. - Please understand that new hires tend to start out at the lower end of the salary range.Salary ScheduleEmployment Period 185 days per year - 7.5 Hour Work Day
