Dental Assistant

Job Summary The Dental Assistant will increase the efficiency of the Dental Office by the delivery of quality oral health care by being a valuable member of the dental care team. Provide excellent communication to the patient for the oral dental care. Exercise excellent customer service while assisting the Dentist with patient care for their dental procedures. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Greet patients in a friendly manner Prepare patients for dental procedures and provide any instructions Make patients feel comfortable before during and after dental treatment Maintain patients confidence and protect operations by keeping information confidential Maintains safe and clean working environment by complying with procedures rules and regulations Protect patients and employees by adhering to infection-control policies and protocols Sterilize dental instruments and equipment for each patient Organize and lay out instruments for dentist s use Assist the dentist during procedures including passing instruments and getting supplies Using suction and swabs to keep patients mouths clear and dry during procedures Take lab work for patients Responsible for keeping the lab area clean Apply topical anesthetic to patients mouths Question patients about their medical history and record the information for dentist s reference Prepare the dental exam room for use by the dentist by making sure it is stocked and organized Assist the dentist during a variety of treatment procedures Take and develop dental radiographs (x-rays) Provide patients with instructions for oral care following surgery or other dental treatment procedures such as the placement of a restoration (filling) Teach patients appropriate oral hygiene strategies to maintain oral health (e.g. tooth brushing flossing and nutritional counseling) Take impressions of patients teeth for study casts (models of teeth) Help to provide direct patient care in all dental specialties including orthodontics pediatric dentistry periodontics and oral surgery Helps dentist manage dental and medical emergencies by maintaining cpr certification Performs other duties as assigned Qualifications General education degree or high school diploma along with Dental Assistant Certification from an accredited school At least (1) year of experience is preferred Knowledge of dental terminology procedures and diagnosis Knowledge of computer and relevant software applications Knowledge of general administrative and clerical procedures Working knowledge of dental insurance Excellent customer service skills with professional and courteous office etiquette Strong organizational skills with the ability to multi-task Computer Skills To perform this job successfully an individual should have working knowledge of Microsoft Office and proprietary dental office software.
