Trinity Firearms Training will conduct a permit to carry weapons class anywhere in western Iowa if I can put a class of 20 or more together. This is a four hour lecture and power point class covering handgun safety training as required by Iowa law situational awareness rules of engagement firearm ammo and holster considerations conflict avoidance and post incident action tips learned from the MAG 20 course presented by Masaad Ayoob. [Feel free to Google that name.] Iowa is now in the renewal phase for the first people who got their permits in 2011. Please be aware of some facts regarding renewals. The DD214 honorable discharge from the military was only good for a new permit five years ago. You cannot renew with a DD214. Renewals must be done more than 30 days prior to the expiration date on your permit. [Avoid a gap in your legality to carry.] State law mandates the renewal to be 25.00 and new permits to be 50.00 at the sheriff s office in your county of residence. If you go in to the sheriff s office to renew within or after that 30 day window it becomes a new permit situation. Renewals require either a class or a demonstration of shooting proficiency at a shooting range. OR you can let your permit expire and use your original certificate of training to apply for a new permit. This results in a gap in your legal carry. Do you even know where that original certificate is Yes I know this is a bit complicated but the relatively new Iowa law is much better than the previous law and is actually one of the better permit to carry laws in the USA. My class is 50.00 for a new permit and 20.00 for a verifiable renewal.
