Mechanical Manufacturing Engineer - Plastics Extrusion

RESPONSIBILITIES The Mechanical Engineer will plan and conduct research and development or other projects as assigned as well as facilitate the implementation of new and improved extrusion technology related tooling equipment processes and products across all extrusion product lines for increased production efficiencies value added features and diversification of Mikron s Quanex Building Products core products. Research develop and evaluate new technology including auxiliary equipment requirements to ensure a competitive industry advantage and to design and build proprietary equipment that is not yet commercially available. Develop and design new tooling concepts and techniques for increased production efficiencies such as output rate cost reduction and improved product quality and manufacturability. Plan and conduct on-line and off-line tests utilizing extrusion operators outside vendors and suppliers in order to develop new technology and process advancements. Develop implement and maintain a methodology for tracking and recording new technology and process improvements. Perform engineering statistical and process analysis on equipment tooling materials and related processes for both existing and new products and technology in order to identify opportunities for improvement. Design and revise new and existing tooling to meet production and quality standards. Analyze and formulate solutions to tooling problems and coordinate corrective action at an interdepartmental level. Provide initial operating procedure sequence of events and method sheets for newly developed products technology and processes. Support the growth and evolution of manufacturing through detailed mechanical drawings and engineering specifications for new and existing equipment and facilities which comply with all applicable federal state and local laws and regulations. REQUIREMENTS Mikron operates within a consolidating and maturing market that is strongly influenced by pricing pressures and foreign competition. To remain competitive and meet expectations on return of invested capital employees need to engage process oriented thinking tied to lean strategies. In addition to lean thinking it is imperative that we identify methods to provide added value to our customers. The Mechanical Engineer sets the tone and pace in this regard by working as part of a team in executing strategy. A broad and in depth understanding of the fenestration industry is required to successfully carry out the role of Mechanical Engineer. Additionally he she must have good communication skills and be able to interact professionally with all levels within the organization and with external customers. In addition the Mechanical Engineer must be proficient in AutoCAD Inventor MS Project Excel Word and Access. A Bachelor s degree in Engineering is required along with three to five or more year s plastic industry experience.
