The first year they will make a clump about 12 inches in diameter and 5 to 6 feet tall. By their maturity they will have grown to 36 inches in diameter and 13 to 15 feet high. They will not spread after that they just get thicker and thicker as the years go by. You can plant them as close as a foot to 18 inches apart and 4 inches deep. I like to put two Rhizomes in each hole so they get thick quicker.
