HOW VALUABLE IS YOUR TIMBER

HOW VALUABLE IS YOUR TIMBER If you have timber I m sure you have been contacted before about selling your timber. We understand that most land owners are uncertain about the care of their land during and after harvesting. Here at High Ridge we make a point to care for your land before and after completion. WHY SHOULD YOU CUT YOUR TIMBER Yes it can be very profitable but that is not the only reason. Trees grow & survive for many reasons..In Alabama we have a variety of soil which really makes a difference on the growth and survival rate not to mention the weather beetles fungus etc. Limestone soil for example is poor soil for trees and you look at finding a lot of rotten trees due to it. Another reason is that when a tree gets to big it can be hard for the roots to support the weight and eventually it falls over and can cause root exposure and death also the bigger the tree the more it can hurt the surrounding trees because they don t get the needed sun exposure and it stunts their growth. ABOUT THE OWNER Terry Green is the owner and licensed forester. Terry has actually been in the timber business in some form or another since he was 8yrs old. Growing up in Hamilton Al his father was a logger and Terry would accompany his father to the woods and his dad taught him how to log wood. When Terry was in his 20 s he went to work for himself in Baton Rouge LA. Buying and logging timber. He took a brief hiatus and went to work for the rock crusher and then decided that wasn t for him.So he started buying land and timber and formed his own business which he later named High Ridge Land & Timber. Terry has been buying timber for over 16yrs and is very knowledgeable in the types of timber effects of the soil fungus & bugs. OUR COMMITMENT TO YOU At High Ridge Land & Timber we pride ourselves on quality we have loggers that have been working for us for many years and they know what we expect. After all we work for you and it s your timber and your land and we respect that and take great pride caring for your land. There is better ways to harvest timber without ruining your land. Terry is always on the jobs to make sure things are being done to your standards. We also encourage our land owners to be part of the process your welcome at anytime to come and see how we are doing and your feedback is important. We do have references and if you would like to visit a site that we are currently on we can set that up for you as well. FREE TIMBER ESTIMATE Current rates you will be paid for your grade logs such as white oak will bring you upwards of 70 per ton. Red Oak is 50 to 60 a ton. Ties are 33 to 38 a ton. Scragg runs 8 a ton and hardwood pulpwood is 6 to 8 a ton. Pine right now is 5 to 6 a ton . Terry will do a thorough walk thru of your property and give you an estimate based on type quality and count of your timber. We always give a conservative estimate it s always good to come out making more than the original estimate. We work hard to get the most return its your timber we are just providing you a service. We have several mills across Alabama Southern Tennessee that we work with and we go to the one that is financially beneficial for you. CUTTING YOUR TIMBER & HOW YOU ARE PAID We try to get the best access and limit how many roads we need in and out. If we do construct roads or use existing roads they will remain passable and will be left in the present condition in which they were found. Any roads we build will be water barred. We select cut and clear cut and we use every part of the tree except for the unusable limbs which we will push up in a pile for burning. We do leave border timber around the creeks that helps shelter the animals and anywhere else you would want to leave a border. We have two ways that we pay we can buy the timber lump sum which entails a detailed walk over the property taking note of the types sizes and how much timber there is to cut. He averages how much a ton you would get for that timber based on his findings. We then offer you a price for the timber and pay you in full. The other option which we encourage the land owner to do is pay as cut. This is of course a more accurate way because you know exactly how many tons and different types of timber are cut. The process for the estimate is the same. On the estimate we always shoot for the conservative side because you never know what we might run in to such as rotten logs which we still can sell for chip n saw but it s really nice to come out higher than we thought which happens a lot. You will be paid weekly with first check a week behind which is based on how we are paid by the mills. Accompanying your check is a detailed pay sheet showing the type of timber where it was hauled and how many tons plus a copy of all the tickets. We do not give a 1099.
