POSITION VACANCY ANNOUNCEMENT POSITION Community Educator Specialist II One position in Tulare County CLOSING DATE November 13 2014 SALARY RANGE 31 900 - 62 500 annually with excellent benefits. Full time position (100%) LOCATION University of California Cooperative Extension 4437-B South Laspina Street Tulare CA 93274 PURPOSE The Community Educator Specialist II is a full time (100%) position under the supervision of the Nutrition Education Program Manager. The CES II is responsible for the coordination of program implementation focusing on delivery of nutrition education to low-income youth and families. This includes recruiting training guiding and supporting nutrition education extenders with information and resources program evaluation and documentation in compliance with USDA guidelines. The CES II is responsible for training teachers volunteers to use UC-CalFresh approved curricula to deliver nutrition education to youth and families coordinate events in low-income schools and promote UC Cal-Fresh. This person will also coordinate efforts with other nutrition and physical activity programs establish and maintain strong working relationships with schools school districts county-based agencies organizations and services. The CES II is responsible for evaluating community education programs functions as a community resource tailors program delivery to audience agency needs and provides leadership to volunteers and to CES I staff. Works with schools and agencies to promote policy and environmental changes that support good nutrition and increased physical activity. Analyzes program content and delivery needs to determine effectiveness of current programs. The UC CalFresh Nutrition Education Program (UC-CalFresh) is a federally funded program to address nutrition education and self-sufficiency of California youth and families that are qualified for federal supplemental nutrition assistance program (SNAP). SKILLS KNOWLEDGE ABILITY Knowledge of or experience in nutrition health science community education or a related field. Excellent organizational skills to develop course of action keep a schedule monitor projects plans and review and analyze results. Excellent writing skills to produce press releases and promote program activities using various media. Strong interpersonal oral and written skills to interact with individuals from various backgrounds the ability to maintain positive interactions with others and work independently and cooperatively. Must have ability and means to travel to sites on a flexible schedule including some evening and weekends and on occasion to travel overnight outside of the county. Employment contingent upon successfully completing FBI DOJ background check. Experience working with low income youth families and professionals who serve these clients. Excellent ability to interact speak in public and conduct group teaching sessions in a variety of settings for preschool through adult audiences. Basic cooking and food safety skills for conducting food demonstrations. Able to lift and carry up to 25 pounds. Evening and weekend availability for recruitment program delivery and media opportunities on a schedule determined by needs of the program. Able to use Microsoft Office 2007 proficiently (Word Excel Outlook Publisher). Ability to maintain effective community partnerships and productive interpersonal relationships. Teaching experience and knowledge of community for outreach. Knowledge of or experience with educational principals and methods.
