KEY REQUIREMENTS U.S. Citizenship Full unrestricted Licensure Certification or Registration required Designated and or Random Drug Testing required Background and or Security Investigation required English Language Proficiency required Selective Service Registration is required for males born after 12 31 1959 DUTIES Tour of Duty 3 30 p.m. to Midnight Evening Shift (Monday - Friday) The Assistant Nurse Manager in collaboration with the Nurse Manager functions as a supervisor and assumes accountability for the operation of a designated unit. This includes the management supervision and evaluation of care delivered by nursing and other allied health care staff. As a registered nurse the Assistant Nurse Manager is also responsible for contributing to the establishment and implementation of evidenced-based nursing standards of practice. The Assistant Nurse Manager in collaboration with Nurse Manager creates a positive work environment which enhances care delivery and professional development of clinically competent staff. The Assistant Nurse Manager demonstrates a high level of clinical expertise leadership and creative approaches to management of complex care. In addition applies skills necessary to identify coordinate and or identify discipline-specific education as well as training in leadership professional staff development and emerging needs to all levels of staff. The Assistant Nurse Manager is a nurse supervisor and provides oversight for the administration of leave counseling and disciplinary actions in collaboration with the Nurse Manager. Acts as the Nurse Manager during times of Nurse Manager absences. The Assistant Nurse Manager works in partnership with the union and adheres to EEO principles. The Assistant Nurse Manager will maintain proficiency in practice on their assigned unit and remain current with required certification for their unit i.e. basic life support (BLS) and or advanced cardiac life support (ACLS). Preferred Experience 2-3 years of successful nursing practice in the Intensive Care Unit. 2-3 years of leadership experience. MSN preferred. As a Staff Nurse you will provide prescribed medical treatment and personal care services to ill and injured veterans. Duties include documenting observations assessments and changes in patient s condition collaborating with health team members to facilitate positive patient care outcomes providing a full range of nursing care to patients with a variety of physical and or behavior problems and accountable for meeting and maintaining the qualification standards and functional statements of assigned grade. Our facility is seeking individuals who possess good organizational skills which enable completion of work a demonstrated ability to assume leadership in a patient centered program and the ability to establish effective communication with patients families visitors and members of the interdisciplinary team. Physical Requirements This position requires Heavy Lifting 45 pounds& over heavy carrying 45 pounds& over straight pulling (4 hours) pushing (4 hours) use of fingers both hands required walking & standing 8-12 hours repeated bending 8 hours both legs required ability for rapid mental & muscular coordination simultaneously near vision correctable (at) 13 to 16 to Jaeger 1 to 4 far vision correctable in one eye to 20 20 and to 20 40 in the other depth perception ability to distinguish shades of colors hearing (aide permitted). Transferring patients and objects may be required. The incumbent may be exposed to infected patients and contaminated materials and may be required to don protective clothing in isolation situations or operative invasive procedures. The incumbent may occasionally be exposed to patients who are combative secondary to delirium dementia or psychiatric disorders. The incumbent must be a mature flexible sensible individual capable of working effectively in stressful situations able to shift priorities based on patient needs.
