AD 1900.This doll was a gift for a baby born in this year at first Children s Day.The height of the doll (including decoration of the hat and it s base) is12 inches (30cm)Box size is 7.25 x 14 x 6.25 (18.5cm x 35.4cm x16cm)Figure is missing some of the gofun paint on it s face.Both seams of the crotch of the pants have come undone. The red cloth affixed to the origin of the leg has been torn.There are many other damages due to age.Please see the picture(s) to confirm condition.Maruhei Dolls Studio was founded in Kyoto in the 1770s the shopkeeper has inherited the name of OhkiHeizo for generations.I think this doll was made in the forth OhkiHeizo generation perhaps.Maruhei doll Founded in Kyoto in 1779 Maruhei has been one of the most influential doll makers in Japan. With the master craftsman Heizo Oki they have been producing quality dolls up until today. Today s Heizo is the 7th. They won prestigious international awards in the early Meiji period (Oki Heizo III). Their clients include generations of the Royal Family nobilities and the families of wealthy business men. I do not know whether the doll is a model of a specific person or not. However the writing on the box says this is a general of the Meiji Era. 1867-1912.
