Middle School Teacher

Position The Magnolia School an intentionally small private school has an opening beginning August 10 2015 for a full-time teacher in its middle-school classroom of 15-20 students. With one teacher for every 10-12 students this teacher will work collaboratively with a second middle school teacher much of the day. The school s approach is theme-based to teach students to make natural connections. Each year the staff selects different themes (Music Energy Mexico 19th century American History and Ecosystems of the Big Bend for next school year) and develops curriculum that integrates the big ideas and concepts of language arts social studies science and math. (Language arts and math also are taught separately with lessons reinforced during theme study.) The K-8 school is committed to multi-age classrooms (K-2 3-5 6-8) very small student teacher ratios integrated active and differentiated curriculum and developmental student evaluations and portfolios. Job Description Teachers and Directors work together as a team to carry out the philosophy of the school. Responsibilities include but may not be limited to planning lessons teaching and evaluation for small math groups and theme-related studies and activities. Routine expectations include general supervision of students and assistance with conflict resolution throughout the school day preparation for and attendance at Parent Teacher Student conferences and participation in weekly after-school staff meetings. This position provides a unique opportunity to work in an environment that is supportive not only of each individual student but also of each teacher. Qualifications Teacher certification preferred teaching experience considered as an alternative. Strengths in math science and technology especially valued. Experience working with adolescents preferred. Flexibility and enthusiasm for working as part of a team both in planning and implementing the curriculum. Willingness to continue learning new content and approaches in response to the needs of the classroom. Readiness to teach and supervise students throughout the K-8 range at scheduled times each week. Must possess a concern for the needs of the individual student and a commitment to provide an environment that fosters total growth.
