HARPOON IRON - Nautical - North Atlantic Toggle Iron - Mid 1900

I am offering an Azores Harpoon Toggle Iron. Overall it measures 27.25 long while the toggle is 8.00 long x 1.50 wide x .50 thick. The shaft and tapered pole socket are welded together and are 24.00 in overall length. This type of iron was used in the North Atlantic Azores Islands through the 1970 s. Many of the units produced were not signed and could only be identified by their unique casting shape. Because this iron is so similar in design to New England whalecraft it is often mistaken as such. Based on the overall condition materials used and craftsmanship this unit was likely produced in the early to mid 1900 s. It is in excellent condition showing limited use and exposure to the weather. The previous owner most likely wrapped the handle cone with brown cord for display purposes. I added this item to my collection over 25 years ago and have enjoyed displaying it while sharing its history with others. This two pound nautical artifact is a nice piece of international whaling history. This two pound nautical artifact is a fine example of U.S. craftsmanship during the whaling era.
