I am offering an original (not a repo) antique U.S.A. WHITE Sextant and Case built by Wilford O White based in Boston. Navigational devices of this type were used to determine a vessel s position (latitude and longitude) from the observation of the heavenly bodies. The body is a three ring design and a brass arc with inlaid silver vernier scale reading -5 < 150 degrees. The brass arc is stamped as follows UNITED STATES SHIPPING BOARD 1280 (Matches Certificate). There is also a Manufacture s Tag attached to the 6 radial arm which reads Wilford O White s Nautical Instruments Boston. U.S.A . It also features a Swivel Arm Scale Scope with adjustable magnifying tube. The accessories included are as follows three magnified scopes one sighting tube one eye piece filter and a case lock key. The sextant and accessories are housed in its original dovetail mahogany case with all brass hardware and has a functioning SECURE LEVER lock. What appears to be the original Certificate of Examination and a nautical instruments dealer NEGUS label are attached to the inside of the hinged top. Also a brass plaque has been attached to the top of the case which reads U. S. SHIPPING BOARD No. 1280 WILFORD O WHITE DO NOT REMOVE FROM BRIDGE . The unit is in nice original condition showing limited use but does have a couple of minor stress cracks caused by the screws in the case top.
