FOGHORN - Nautical - Antique English Rotary - WOOD CASE -- NORWE

I am offering an antique English Norwegian Pattern Foghorn. During dense fog a ship s crewmember was assigned to crank this device (at certain intervals) especially in congested waterways. Based on the design and materials used it was built in England in the mid 1900 s. It features a 4 diameter copper horn (with brass bezel) mounted in a 21 x 15 x 8 wood case with dovetail end panels. The crank side panel is attached with brass screws and easily removable for service and repairs. The brass crank assembly appears to be original and the leather bellows are is good condition but the leather carry strap has been replaced with a metal handle. There are very complete operating instructions (English & French) titled ROTARY TYPE (NORWEIGIAN PATTERN) FOGHORN still attached to the top. The horn sounds normal when cranked but could have some minor air loss which is typical for its age. This twenty-one pound nautical artifact is a perfect example of British maritime history.
