Costume Studies Fountain School of Performing Arts Dalhousie University announces a Show of Costume titled In Honour of His Royal Highness Prince Arthur The Military Ball of 1869 Prince Arthur (1850-1942) Queen Victoria s 3rd son served as as Canada s tenth Governor General from 1911-1916. At the age of nineteen as a newly-commissioned military officer Queen Victoria s son Prince Arthur visited Canada where he was honoured and feted at every opportunity. On August 31 1869 he visited Halifax where the entire city closed its doors to celebrate his visit. 1 of the events was a military ball held in his honour at Province House on Hollis Street. Newspaper accounts state that in excess of 300 invitations were sent out and supper was served for 500 guests. It was a sumptuous and elegant affair and both city and country dwellers lined the streets in the hope of catching a glimpse of His Highness....
