Refurbished early s Wet Magnetic Compass mounted in a gimbaled ring. Compasses of this size and design were of used as a backup compass or in a lifeboat. This compass is made of brass and mounted in a square x deep mahogany tongue and grove case with brass hardware. The case lid has brass pins so it fits in position. The compass card is signed POLARIS which was built by MARINE COMPASS CO. based in PEMBROKE MASS. There is a small metal bar mounted in the center of the compass card that reads PAT. DOT. . The compass liquid (mineral oil) is full and the readings appear to be accurate. This quality unit is very unique in respects. 1st it has volt lighting with the original screw in miniature bulb fixture and cloth covered wire. 2nd it has a brass slotted moveable window cover that allows degrees of the scale to be read and concentrates the light in that area.
