My name is Maria Giordano and I have been in the field of children and family counseling for over fifteen years. I was the director of the Salvation Army Family Homeless Shelter in Waterbury Connecticut where several unfortunate homeless women and their children lived. As director of this shelter my job was to assist these women in learning parenting skills and finding appropriate living arrangments for themselves and their children. At this position I had daily contact with these beautiful children and I assisted in their care on a daily basis. After that position I continued my education in the counseling profession and I am currently a State Certified Counselor. I accepted a position as a substance abuse counselor in a residential women and children s facility called Community Solutions The Chase Center Women and Children s Program . At this position I worked with young mothers who were troubled with addictions and other issues and as their counselor I assisted them in becoming healthy and functional mothers to their children. Since these women and their children lived at the facility for six months to a year I had the opportunity of becoming an intricate part of their lives and in the care of their children on a daily basis. Basically my entire career has been in the care of women and children and I loved that part of the job. Unfortunately the State closed down the Chase Center Women and Children s Program last year due to the unfair politics involved with these types of programs. I decided to get out of this political rat race and to dedicate my life to the care of the children rather than their mothers and at the same time I could remove myself from the politics that governs those programs. I would be able to continue to do what I love which is to take care of children and also remove myself from the beuracracy of the powers that rule these programs. I am a mature woman who loves children. I am nurturing and I believe I am just the type of person that any parent would want caring for their most precious belongings their kids. I would not mind performing some light housekeeping while being a nanny to your children such as making their lunch doing a few dishes or making their beds but the majority of my time will be spent in the one on one care of your children. I must admit I am not the typical babysitter. I actually like to read to children and teach them things. They would get one on one care from me which they would never get in a daycare and at a very reasonable price. I believe that I am a perfect solution to the working family who feels nervous about leaving their children in a typical army camp daycare where the children spend the majority of their day napping and catching colds from the other children.
