We were able to save Mimi and her brother Shep on their last day. They had been found as strays living in the woods in Miami-Dade. They had never been around people. In the few weeks they have been with us they are developing the trust that can come from gentle loving interaction. Both dogs are now following our staff around. It is amazing what a little treat can do. They weigh about 20 pounds today but will probably grow to 50 or 60. They are not yet leash ready and will need a little time to continue developing trust but we believe they are going to be wonderful companions. While the two are bonded they do not need to be adopted together but we sure home they can be. They really love one another and sleep completely intertwined.Mimi is shiny reddish tan with a cute brown nose and floppy ears. She has big puppy eyes that show sweetness and appreciation for a roof over her head. Mimi is more playful today while Shep is more reserved and cuddly. Update on Mimi and Shep - they are making real progress. Two of our teammates spend time with them multiple times every day and they re really bonding. They a lot more comfortable and they are giving sweet kisses. Mimi now really wagging her tail. Shep is still a little more shy. We are about to start working on leash training. We think they will both be ready for homes around mid-October. We are so hopeful they ll be adopted together.
