Refurbished USN Quartermaster s Telescope. Spyglasses of this type were used by the quartermaster detailed to steer the ship. Built in 1942 by the Los Angeles based Hayward Lumber Company it measures 31 in length has a 2 aperture (object end) and weighs almost 6 pounds. It is signed U.S. NAVY SPYGLASS QUARTERMASTER MARK 2 16 POWER BU. SHIPS SERIAL 28886 1942 HAYWARD LOS ANGELES . It has the original line wrapping with sailor macram at both ends plus an anti-roll unit at the object end. This spyglass comes housed in a solid oak case with brass hardware and the original Hayward tag signed SERIAL 30713 1942 . This shows that they were both were made in the same year with close serial numbers which indicates that they probably served on the same ship. The telescope does not show any material damage and has a clear view while the case is solid but has seen some extended sea duty. The left side of the higned lid is slightly warped but closes OK.
