Aspen - Female Cockapoo

Aspen has been with us for a long time. She came to us in August of 2014. When Aspen arrived she was very fearful. She just hid in the corner and buried her face. It was very sad. We even had to put her on medication for depression. She just looked like she wanted to die. We all felt so sad for her. Aspen did get adopted one time but when the adopter got her home Aspen would not move. They even had to carry her outside to go potty. She would not move at all. They had to bring her back. When Aspen saw the rescue s play area she became very happy and really responded to me with love. I have allowed Aspen to progress at her own speed without pushing her forward a lot because she was so sad when she arrived and I don t want her to ever go back to that again. So progress has been very slow. At night when no one else is around Aspen will sit in the chair next to me. She will lay her head against my leg and go to sleep. She will come to me for treats and for pets. She runs and plays especially in the mornings and generally with a toy in her mouth. She looks happy even though she is still fearful.I have been trying to leash train Aspen for over a year and she would NOT take a step. Not even for peanut butter which is her favorite treat. Today I put the leash on said Let s go and she went I was astonished. She walked the entire parameters of the play area with me and back inside. Wow I had to keep rechecking to make sure it was really Aspen on the other end of the leash She is doing great on a leash now and will walk with a few other volunteers.Aspen is a 5 year old cockapoo She weights about 22.6 lbs. She is considered a special needs adoption and will require an adopter who has experience with fearful dogs.... More Info
