Homer came to SoCo as a happy little guy. He s a bright boy that caught onto routine pretty quick. He loves people but can be assertive with other dogs. Homer can be selective about the friends he chooses and a meeting prior to adoption is required. Homer would do well as an only dog in a household without small children. Homer did test positive for heart worms on 5 20 16. While the test can t determine the amount of heart worms that a dog has a vet can and typically determines the level of infection based on a number of factors including the amount of time it takes for the test results to appear. In Homer s case the results took the full allotted 10 minutes to appear and the line was very faint leading our vet to interpret his level of infection as very slight . Our vet recommended that Homer be kept on a monthly heart worm preventative and then retested in six months. This method of treating heart worms is referred to as the Slow Kill method.
