Dolly - Female Pointer Mix

Hello future family My name is Dolly and boy have I been on an adventure for the last few months Let me tell you ALL about me so you can decide if I m your perfect forever dog. I hope you re sitting down because it s quite the tail ha Get it Tail I came to Minnesota by way of transport from Tennessee where I originally was staying at the Animal Humane Society. When I got here they realized that in addition to having heartworm I was very shy and didn t trust people all that much so they felt it would be best if I recuperate from heartworm in a foster home. I was spayed (more on that later) treated for heartworm and transferred to CSHS. About a week into my heartworm treatment I managed to get out of my foster mom s house and I was on the run for seven days CSHS staff was really worried about me because vigorous exercise for dogs that have been treated for heartworm can be really dangerous. Even though I did a great job surviving on my own for a week I was exhausted and lost a lot of weight and I was pretty glad when they caught me. I moved to another foster home (with a fence ) and after a couple of weeks I learned to be comfortable and feel safe in her yard and now my foster mom isn t worried that I ll be a flight risk at all. In fact after I potty I want to get back inside and back onto my couch as soon as possible At first I might have a couple of accidents in your house until I figure out my potty schedule and feel safe in your yard. When you first bring me home you should keep a leash on me in your fenced yard and help me get used to my new potty spots and all the new sights and sounds of your neighborhood so I don t get scared.I don t really want to talk about it but my old life wasn t a very happy one. I get nervous with new people and it will take me some time to warm up to you and seek attention. I do love snuggling in bed with my foster mom and whoever adopts me will have to be patient as I learn to trust them. My foster mom says I need positive reinforcement - whatever that means. All I know is that she calls me a breathing rug and while I get excited in the morning when it s time to get up and I wiggle a lot when she comes home I mostly just like hanging out in whatever room my people are in cuddled up on the chair or couch. Because I was suffering pretty badly from general anxiety I am now on Prozac and doing MUCH better. I will likely need to stay on Prozac or a similar anti-anxiety medication for the long-term. In addition I am on a medication called Proin because without it I can have accidents. When I had my spay surgery done to make sure I won t have any more puppies (thank goodness ) they missed some bits. My foster mom said I can get a revised spay surgery once I go into heat again - but we don t know exactly when that will happen. Either way you won t have to worry about paying for that - my rescue has it covered. I will also need my heartworm check when I hit six months from treatment - so sometime in November. If I still have any stupid heartworms left in me CSHS will pay for my treatment. Oh and there s one more thing. I do have hip dysplasia in my right hip and because of that I will need to be on arthritis medication and glucosamine and chondroitin supplements for life. I am doing well on them and because I m not a super active dog I likely won t need surgery.I am kind of sad because I m worried that even though I am a super sweet dog and my fur feels like velvet and I have the best puppy dog eyes in the business no one will want to adopt me because I will need medicine and some extra TLC forever. My foster mom said the monthly cost for my care would be about 50-60 for the Prozac Proin Rimidyl and joint supplements. That doesn t include the grain-free food I m on (Taste of the Wild). Oh and coconut oil - my foster mom mixes it in with my food so it disguises the taste of my pills. She thinks I haven t noticed but it s so yummy and she s so nice that I let it slide. ) I am (almost) spayed microchipped hopefully will be negative for heartworm in November and current on all my vaccinations. My adoption fee is 275.00.If interested please submit an online adoption application at -.----X.-....
