Micah - Male German Shepherd Dog

You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website.MICAH is a tall handsome guy who recently came to us as a starvation case and was roughly half his normal body weight. He was dumped at a shelter by a family who gave no reason and sadly they will not be prosecuted for this extreme cruelty. But Micah is safe and steadily gaining ground in his wonderful foster home. He gained 7 lbs in the first two weeks with small feedings multiple times a day his fur is starting to shine and the thin patches are becoming thicker and healthier. We suspect that when he s up to weight he ll be between 90-95 lbs - a big boyMicah is a very friendly guy who really just wants to love and be loved. He ADORES attention He ll be a velcro dog at least for a while until he becomes confident that his new-found safety and securty are permanent. Until then he ll shadow your every step and you ll have to be careful not to trip over him. For now he s still a little uncertain around new people (especially men). But he looks to his foster mom for approval and follows the other dogs lead -- which means he ll come right on over and ask you for pets and loving. He gets along very well with the other dogs (all large) in his foster home and fit right in immediately. We have not had the chance to test him either small dogs or cats yet. He s actually learning to run and play a little bit with them. He needs to develop good muscle mass and tone in his back legs which will take several months or more of good daily exercise. It appears that Micah was kept confined in a crate closet room shed or basement by his former owners. His fur and body were filthy with years of accumulated dirt but not the usual outdoor gunk. His ears are in good shape and don t have flystrike. At first he circled in a crouching manner and curled up in a tiny ball so we believe he lived in a tiny confined space where he barely had room to turn around. After 2 weeks in his foster home he started to relax and stretch out a little bit more and now he follows the lead of his foster siblings and is learning to stretch those long legs and body out to be comfortable. Micah is crate trained and mostly house trained and now eats at a leisurely pace without wolfing his food down. He s smart and will learn readily with consistent training and leadership. He s learned to use a doggie door and is slowly learning leash manners. We would like for Micah to have a doggie buddy to help him gain confidence and play with. A 6 ft fence is strongly preferred.Micah is a cruelty victim but his bad-old-days are gone for good We re looking for THE best home ever for him. We are constantly fundraising to cover the deficit. At minimum your adoption fee includes the dog s spay neuter heartworm test heartworm treatment if needed rabies shot distemper parvo shot bordatella shot deworming monthly heartworm and flea preventives and microchip.
