Everywhere today you hear the message There are no absolutes. Think what you want say what you want do what you want. The philosophy of the multitudes seems to be that the only absolute is one s own personal values which means Do as you please. Society s rules offering a degree of protection and stability are the only thing hindering some people from doing whatever seems desirable or good to themselves. It was the same at times in the days of the Bible. Judges 17 6 In those days there was no king in Israel but every man did that which was right in his own eyes. The result is a serious inability to know right from wrong 180 degrees out of kilter or backwards. Isaiah 5 20 Woe unto them that call evil good and good evil that put darkness for light and light for darkness that put bitter for sweet and sweet for bitter So in a world where it seems that the only thing that counts is one s personal values (subjective moral reasoning) and how one feels about an issue does the Bible speak about absolutes Yes it does see below. Psalm 111 7 The works of his hands are verity and judgment all his commandments are sure.Psalm 111 8 They stand fast for ever and ever and are done in truth and uprightness. Does God ever change Malachi 3 6 For I am the LORD I change not therefore ye sons of Jacob are not consumed. Is there such a thing as truth John 17 17 Sanctify them through thy truth thy word is truth. God s Word does not change. Psalm 93 5 Thy testimonies are very sure holiness becometh thine house O LORD for ever. Many choose to think that in time maybe God s Word can change. Wrong Matthew 24 35 Heaven and earth shall pass away but my words shall not pass away. When the Day of Judgment comes God s absolute unchangeable law will be used to judge everyone. He is not a respecter of persons He uses the same rules to judge us all He doesn t discriminate. Acts 10 34 Then Peter opened his mouth and said Of a truth I perceive that God is no respecter of persons Romans 2 11 For there is no respect of persons with God. God will hold everyone accountable because of the absolutes He has given in His law. Romans 2 6 Who will render to every man according to his deeds 2 Corinthians 5 10 For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ that every one may receive the things done in his body according to that he hath done whether it be good or bad. I have attempted to connect some of the dots and gain a clearer picture I truly hope this helps. I see the need for God s absolutes each and everyday abortion comes to mind. Many of us humans choose to be on thin ice when God s absolutes are rejected for ones own personal values (subjective moral reasoning).
