Our campaign committee had our eyes opened while attending the SD Stock Growers Association Convention in Rapid City SD on September 21-22 2016. We were under a false impression that the farmers and ranchers lived in expensive farmsteads and they basically had tons of money and were living a life of Reilly We learned that this is simply not the case at all. We met several farmers and ranchers Thursday and we had an opportunity to talk with most of them about what regulations and restrictions they are forced to live with. The pictures above are just an example of what farmers and ranchers face from year to year. It s not all wine and roses We spoke with several farmers and ranchers about the drought the corruption in State Government and about fair property taxes. One rancher told us that all they can grow on the land is grass because the soil quality won t sustain any commercial crops whatsoever They also told us that the maximum earnible income per acre is 120. However their value per acre for property taxes is 820 per acre. We can t see how any farmers and ranchers can make a profit or stay in business with figures like these Land should not be assessed at a fictitious value. There s no buildings on it Therefore the owner is limited to actual use values. East River & West River farmers and ranchers must work together to protect the legacy of the South Dakota Stock Grower Industry We all remember what our winter was like just two years ago Our Property Tax Revision Plan will therefore be revised as it pertains to farmers and ranchers and stock growers use values so as to reflect the huge disparity in comparison to actual use vs. maximum use tax values. As to Property Tax Values of farmland and ranch land the formula will be based not only on their actual principle values at the time of purchase but also their actual use values. We must become preppers of food and help your neighbors in times of need. You are already good neighbors neighbors helping neighbors is what South Dakota is all about You are the experts in everything you do Farmers and ranchers are Christians they practice good husbandry of the land and they practice good husbandry of their animals. What this means to the farmers and ranchers is their farmlands (i.e. grazing or cropland) will be assessed at their actual reasonable use value and not on the fictitious maximum profit value.
