General Info Palmetto Caye is a 42 acre mixed mangrove and coral based island located 4.5 miles south of the popular and quaint tourist destination of Placencia Village in the Stann Creek District which places it approximately 36.5 miles south of Dangriga and 73 miles south of Belize City. The island has been surveyed into four parcels (10 acres each). The windward side of the island is relatively shallow with the development of a number of near shore patch reefs. The near shore waters off the leeward side of the Caye have a depth usually within 2M whereas the more distal areas ranges from 2 to 3M. The southern portion of the island is located on the highest ground. Existing Planned Development There is currently no development on the island. Proposed development of the island has centered on the creation of a wide canal with access that will allow for both Seafront lots and Canal lots. The excavation of the canal would leave a minimal footprint and can serve the dual purpose of both providing fill material for the property and also to provide the appropriate depth (8-10ft) for the berthing of boats. Additional fill material can be sourced from burrow sites just northwest of the island. Nearby Development(s) The nearest offshore development is the recently completed NCL 100 million dollar cruise ship terminal project on adjacent Harvest Caye (71 acres) located approximately 1.5 miles north of Palmetto.
