Acer japonicum often known as full moon maple is a small spreading deciduous tree or big shrub that can reach heights of 20 to 30 feet. It frequently develops into a multi-trunked form. It is indigenous to the mountainous regions of Korea Manchuria and Japan. Acer japonicum has rounded palmate almost fern-like medium green leaves that are 3-6 broad and deeply split into 7-11 acuminate toothed and cut ovate to lance-shaped lobes that are spaced approximately 1 3 of the leaf base apart. In the autumn leaves become yellow and red. The common name comes from the allegorical similarity of each rounded leaf to a full moon. Early spring (April) brings the appearance of little purplish-red blooms in pendulous corymbs before the leaves.
