Midbody

Mammalian cells have a temporary structure called the midbody, which appears right before the dividing cells completely separate at the conclusion of cytokinesis. In terms of structure, the midbody is made up of a number of microtubules that come from the mitotic spindle, which condenses at the end of cell division. It typically measures 1 micrometer in diameter and 3 to 5 micrometers in length. It also includes a wide variety of proteins that are involved in cytokinesis, asymmetric cell division, and chromosomal segregation in addition to microtubules.
