NEW HIGHER PAY 44 588 - 65 346 The ChallengeWe are looking for an entry level Environmental Specialist to join our Division 13 Environmental team. In this role you will Ensure appropriate compliance with federal state environmental laws and regulations in transportation studies. Ensure adherence to avoidance and minimization guidelines. Ensure mitigation is provided for unavoidable impacts and necessary environmental permits are applied for received and complied with during project construction. Serve as our Division s point of contact with state federal agencies for all Division projects on topics related to jurisdictional determination NEPA SEPA requirements permitting and environmental compliance. Conduct field inspections schedule meetings with appropriate staff and coordinate oversee private consulting firms. Review staff recommendations affecting expenditures on critical highway projects. What You BringKnowledge of natural resource conservation principles and state federal environmental regulations affecting construction work including NC Environmental Policy Act National Environmental Policy Act and Section 404 of the Clean Water Act. Demonstrated ability to schedule and complete reviews of technical projects preparation of permit applications and environmental documentation as required by state federal laws. Experience conducting natural resource field evaluations including stream and wetland delineations and threatened endangered species surveys. Demonstrated ability to evaluate and direct environmental compliance needs and issues on construction projects using sound and consistent judgement. Experience being a liaison and interacting with external organizations groups or agencies. Knowledge of the principles of natural and environmental science relating to transportation planning and environmental assessment. Knowledge of wetland systems biological communities and the relationship of highways and highway development to streams and wildlife. Knowledge of techniques and methods employed in conducting ecological field inventories stream delineations wetland delineations and protected species surveys. Ability to solve problems resolve conflicts and apply critical thinking to complex environmental issues. Solid communication skills. Computer skills using Microsoft Word and Excel plus familiarity with ArcGIS MicroStation and use of handheld GPS data loggers. Education & ExperienceBachelor s degree in agricultural biological engineering environmental or natural resource sciences or a closely related curriculum or An equivalent combination of education and experience.
