Hospice was initially founded by a group of volunteers committed to making a profound difference in our community. Volunteers continue to play an essential role in hospice care and make vital contributions to patients families and VeraCare Hospice. Volunteer Opportunities VeraCare Hospice volunteer internships offer s several opportunities to get involved and gain experience.PATIENT FAMILY VOLUNTEERS Our caring trained volunteers are assigned to patients and their families as a professional friend. This allows the volunteer to spend quality time with the patient. They bring the outside world into a community-based facility or more often in their own homes.COMPANION CALLERS Make a supportive telephone call to patients and their caregivers providing companion and emotional support over the phone. You will provide additional support as part of our hospice team.11th HOUR VOLUNTEER Bring the gift of your presence to patient family caregivers during their loved ones 11 th Hour in order to provide support patients family members during the final hours during the actively dying stage. Our hope would be that no one dies alone . Volunteers will help in creating peaceful surroundings sharing in silence with patient and family. Offering a calm and peaceful presence or possibly being an active listener if that is needed. You could play soft music or read something inspirational. Most of our patients prefer privacy but on occasion volunteers presence can be a great help.ADMINISTRATIVE VOLUNTEER Volunteers who prefer to work in the office gain clerical and administrative skills answering phones and providing general office assistance.UNIQUE VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES Each volunteer has their own talents i.e. dog visits perform music share computer skills all which can be offered to both patients their caregivers and our hospice team. Come share what passions and talents you want to share with others.INTERNSHIPS We offer business MSW and BSW internships placements from local universities and colleges.
