Highway Maintenance Supervisor

The County of El Dorado is conducting this recruitment to fill one (1) full time vacancy for the Transportation Department located in South Lake Tahoe Ca. It will also establish a list for a minimum of three months which may be used to fill future full-time part-time and extra-help vacancies throughout the county.DEFINITIONUnder direction plans coordinates organize and direct the work of a crew(s) performing road repair maintenance and construction.DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICSThis is the first full supervisory level class in road maintenance programs. Incumbents plan organize schedule assign and direct the work of a crew(s) and provide technical assistance as necessary. This class is distinguished from Assistant Highway Superintendent in that the latter manages roads on the west slope and bridge and traffic control maintenance crews countywide.Instruct and provides for the training of crewmembers in work methods use of tools and equipment and relevant safety precautions. Inspects job sites to determine work required and to evaluate performance. Evaluates personnel material and equipment requirements for assigned jobs prepares and submits request for same. Provides technical assistance to crews in resolving difficult problems encountered. Prepares and maintains a variety of reports and records including timecards worksheets accident reports maintenance request etc. Orders and maintains an adequate inventory to accomplish assigned jobs. Responds to questions and complaints from the public property owners private contractors and others. Recommends special work required or necessary equipment maintenance reviews work upon completion. Ensures appropriate safety devices and equipment are begin utilized conducts safety meetings. Coordinates activities with other divisions and departments and affected agencies. Drivers trucks and may perform work as an on-site supervisor on major or difficult jobs. Responds to emergency situations as necessary may supervise snow removal and ice control work. Investigates legal claims against the County related to assigned activities and prepares reports of findings. Plans schedules assigns supervises and reviews the work of crews engaged in road maintenance and repair work. Two years of experience as a crew leader or advance journey level in road maintenance and construction work or in equipment operation at a level equivalent to the County s classes of Senior Highway Maintenance Worker or Highway Maintenance Worker III.Must possess a valid Class C driver s license. Must be willing to work outside in all weather conditions with exposure to traffic and regularly lift and carry objects weighing up to sixty (60) pounds.
