Building Maintenance Mechanic I - Oklahoma State University

Thoroughly inspect and analyze the condition of all building and installed mechanical electrical equipment which is maintained by Facilities Management. Inspections are conducted for the purpose of detecting any signs of wear fatigue displacement looseness breakage or any conditions which may become hazardous or cause breakdown of the facilities or equipment. Report in writing or on an electronic device any problems including location description priority (emergency routine etc.) and whether it was corrected or needs to be corrected by another Facilities Management department (because of the length of time involved). Employee in this position is required to be on rotating standby for emergencies and or any other event after 5 p.m. weekdays weekends and holidays. Employee in this position is required to work overtime when work requires. Employee in this position is required to work shift work when work can t be accomplished during regular hours and when the Management staff deems necessary. Must use appropriate personal protective equipment as required (gloves respirator arc flash apparel safety glasses etc.) These items are not for personal use. The incumbent will be required to provide their own basic hand tools and maintain them in good working condition. Must be able to perform snow and ice removal tasks and respond at any time of the day or night when scheduled by management regardless of the weather conditions. Some irregular and extra hours as needed for projects and emergencies. Emergencies frequently involve difficult working conditions. This may require work during nonbusiness hours which include evenings Saturdays Sundays and when the University is closed. Perform other assigned duties related to operations maintenance and renovations to buildings and equipment such as preventive maintenance light duty carpentry painting electrical plumbing and other miscellaneous repairs and maintenance activities and respond to emergency and urgent work. Work may include exposure to electric shock steam and high temperature water open mechanical and rotating equipment high air pressures working from ladders or heights and areas of potential asbestos hazardous chemicals bio-hazard and radiation exposure. Work may involve dust and dirt high noise levels smoke and noxious odors low lighting levels crowded spaces insects weather temperatures extremes of outside work. This position is heavy in manual labor and requires the physical ability to lift up to 50 pounds frequently and in excess of 50 pounds occasionally.Assist other preventive maintenance and Facilities Management personnel as needed. Required High School Graduate GED with three years experience in building maintenance with background in mechanical electrical equipment with two of those years working in a building maintenance organization.Have before hire and maintain after hire a valid driver s license. A valid driver s license must be maintained for the operation of an OSU vehicle which is required in the performance of job duties as assigned. Highly developed powers of observation good communications skills ability to follow instructions closely ability to work with very little supervision. Ability to access tight spaces to perform job pass a respirator fit test and wear full face respirator for extended periods to climb and or work from stairs ladders scaffold etc. for extended periods. Ability to work in a squat position or on knees for extended periods. Broad general mechanical electrical electronic background. General building skill experience (i.e. carpentry plumbing HVAC etc.). This position is heavy in manual labor and requires the physical ability to lift up to 50 pounds frequently and in excess of 50 pounds occasionally. Ability to become proficient in the use of Aim Computerized Maintenance management System (CMMS) software and the use of mobile technology. Preferred HS GED with four years of prior successful work experience in the building trades or technical field at a building maintenance organization or two years post-secondary education in the building trades or technical field with two years of prior successful maintenance experience in a university commercial or industrial building maintenance organization.
