Outside of their constant fight to survive Nathan comes to terms with being a Deglon a very rare creature as he learns about his origins grapples with time travel and memory loss and navigates a reality where he can commune with the dead. Jerusalem April 1938 Early Sunday morning women and children scream as twenty men in white robes charge into a small temple and execute everyone. These vicious assassins barricade all exits and yell various prayers at their victims as they slaughter them. Leaving the frightened individuals little time to react the assailants remove heads with their sharpened pieces of steels bash in skulls with their large heavy sticks and cut the throats of the victims. The terrified people scatter like mice in search of a hiding place in the small church. Some hide in closets and behind the long thick window curtains hoping they will be the ones to survive the savage rampage. Others fight courageously to defend their families but their fists are no match for the numerous blades and guns the men use to steal their lives. In the name of an incredibly unmerciful Lord sixteen innocent lives are taken. Their slayers believe their actions are an act for the good of all society ridding their town of what they believe to be monsters of Hell born into their world. These victims committed no crimes nor were they violent. These people were murdered merely because they were born different. Some were rightfully feared but wrongfully labeled witches vampires and monsters due to their amazing abilities and unnatural appearances. Later that evening just before nightfall two children hide behind a large boulder and watch in horror as their parents are ruthlessly pummeled with stones hurled by furious townspeople outside their tiny shack deep in the forest. Fifty people angrily scream at them chanting Die witches die They hang the beaten bodies on crosses hammering iron rods into their hands and feet crucifying them just as Jesus had been crucified thousands of years before their time as they scream and chant prayers offering the bodies as sacrifices to their God. Hear me when I call my dear God of righteousness We offer you these children of the devil. For we know our Lord that you have no tolerance for wickedness and neither shall we your children. I will fear no evil for you are with me. Have mercy on these demonic souls Lord an old white-bearded man shouts raising his hands to the heavens. Martha and VolDon Wallace sob quietly as the crazed mob savagely torments their parents. They pray the harsh punishment will stop but their pleas for mercy go unanswered and as large wooden staffs are plunged into the stomachs of their parents they watch them take their last breaths. Even after death the people still attack the limp dangling bodies. They continually shout Die witches die while each take turns ripping the flesh from the still bodies with sharp-ridged stones. This abuse carries on for thirty long minutes. When night darkens the sky and the people are gone the children rip the bodies from the crosses. One at a time they drag the bodies into their home where they mourn until morning. They all will pay Martha says. She stares at her parents mutilated bodies with tears glistening in her hazel eyes. VolDon drops to his knees and prays. Get up Get up now There is no one to hear you Martha says snatching him from the floor. The thirteen-year-old girl loses all faith in the God she once prayed to faithfully. She cries until she can cry no more leaving only fury left for her to feel. I will spare no one that is not like us. They will all pay she says. She grabs the hand of her six-year-old brother and the two leave the only life they have ever known.
