The top of the board actually has a slight texture where as the bottom of the board is slick. In case you are unfamiliar with a soft board the board is made out of a high density closed cell foam product with additional layers laminated on the outside of the board much like a high end boogie board but bigger thicker and less flexible. The end product is firm but ever so slightly pliable.
