Category Education Description Job Classification Hourly (Non Exempt). General Responsibilities To represent the YMCA personally professionally and in a manner in accordance with the mission and goals of the YMCA. Under the direction of the Teacher the Assistant Educator plans and implements classroom curriculum maintains children s records communicates information to families and maintains a safe healthy warm engaging and attractive environment. Age appropriate activities should provide for growth in skill self-awareness group relations and character development. By conducting themselves in a caring responsible honest and respectful manner the Assistant Educator is a role model for children and adults. Responsibilities Keep safety of the children as a first priority. Emphasize personal safety and emotional well - being with the children families and other staff at all times. By personal example helps to interpret the quality of the YMCA character values of children staff and families. Must be a positive healthy role model. Uses positive and constructive methods of behavior management and ensures that all staff does the same. Supervise children to ensure safety and appropriate behavior and manage transitions smoothly. To work with the Teacher in the design of the classroom space. To be responsible for making sure that materials are ready for use and put away at the end of the day. To assist the Teacher with assessing the children. The Assistant Educator will be expected to observe children and perform specific assessment items that will provide information on the child s developmental level within their realm of experience. The Teacher will help write assessment reports under the supervision of the Lead Teacher with the input of the Assistant Educator. The Assistant Educator will work closely with the Teacher to design a curriculum that meets the needs of each child in the classroom. The Assistant Educator will be involved in the planning and implementation of the curriculum under the direction of the Teacher. The Assistant Educator will be responsible for writing daily notes for families as agreed upon with the Lead Teacher. These notes should reflect the child s daily experiences in the program. Participate in EEC Professional Development trainings (hours determined by number of hours worked within the program) 1 3 must be in the area of working with diverse learners. To perform chore duties as scheduled at the program which rotate among staff. Must adhere to the rules regulations and procedures set forth by the YMCA of Greater Boston the branch and the Department of Early Education and Care. Position Requirements Must be at least 18 years of age or have a high school diploma or equivalent and meet the requirements for Assistant Teacher (102CMR7.21 (2) a. Must work at all times under the direct supervision of at least a teacher qualified staff person. Must be First Aid and CPR certified within 6 months of employment. Must be committed to the philosophy and goals of the YMCA. Attend corporate training on Blood Borne Pathogens and Sexual Harassment within the first 60 days of employment. Attend corporate training on Child Abuse Prevention within the first 60 days of employment.
