Well established University is looking for Sr. IT Business Analyst (Investment Proposals PMBOK Modelling Techniques Exp.) Location Athabasca AB. This is long term contract with possibility of further extension. Summary The Senior Business Analyst (BA) works closely with a broad range of internal and external stakeholders including upper and executive management to clarify business goals and to extract requirements from the perspectives of both technical and non-technical stakeholder groups associated with a proposed idea or change to the organization. Using a broad range of analysis tools and techniques the BA investigates documents and analyzes these requirements to transition from the current business and technological state to the desired future state to achieve the identified business goals. The BA liaises with business and technical staff and formulates evidence-based proposals business cases or resources to aid the institution in making informed decisions about information and communication technology investments or development and business transformation plans. The BA also continually identifies and assesses gaps in current processes systems or services and researches potential solutions to inform operational or strategic planning Responsibilities Conducts qualitative and quantitative research (e.g. database searches interviews workshops focus groups surveys and statistics or metrics analysis) to collect and understand stakeholder business requirements and translate these requirements into functional and technical requirements and related plans Clarifies business goals and extracts requirements from both technical and non-technical stakeholder groups to inform planning Analyses a broad range of institutional information which will at times include confidential and sensitive departmental and employee related information institutional strategy initiatives and financial impact scenarios. Conducts analyses to determine gaps impacts and requirements (e.g. costs process changes system changes data control changes policy changes privacy security changes) between the current business and technological state and the proposed future state from different enterprise architectural perspectives (e.g. business information data application technology infrastructure) Models and analyzes business-related processes and or objects using different modelling techniques (e.g. use case scenarios swim-lanes business process maps value chains storyboards data flow diagrams) using adopted modelling technologies and standards Develops investment proposals business cases communication plans business change and readiness plans or other plans as required to support effective investment decisions and or support business transformation Assesses investment proposals business cases or plans to help determine business value costs resources measures risks and provides formative feedback Stays current with advancements related to the Business Analysis Body of Knowledge (BABOK) and applies learning to improve practice Performs milestone checks on active projects investments and assesses post-project measures on completed projects investments to validate return on investment as identified in investment proposals business cases or project plans Working as part of the IT Strategy and Planning team contributes to the development of the Enterprise Architectural Plan Strategic Plan and integrated Delivery Plan (Roadmap) As required functions as the primary liaison for contracted services relating to business analyses and validates outcomes and compliance with established enterprise architecture standards and controls Ensures any documentation and assets resulting from assigned activities are stored in repositories kept up-to-date and are readily accessible to those with the appropriate permissions Develops and maintains business analysis templates resources tools and processes to streamline business analysis activities Contributes knowledge and expertise and participates in governing bodies as required to support organizational goals Tracks BA time in adopted time tracking system Participates in discussions regarding how a new idea change may impact the organization and or how the existing architecture can support the idea change Communicates internally with business stakeholders and the information technology organization and outwardly to end-users across the institutional community At times communicates externally to peer institutions or vendors This position must possess excellent written verbal and visual communication skills to interact and solicit input from stakeholders to formulate comprehensive business cases and supporting business analysis documentation and to present and explain findings to inform effective governance decision-making and planning This position will function as a key liaison between business and technical stakeholder groups. They must be able to establish and maintain effective working relationships between both groups to ensure requirements are captured effectively and that both groups understand the implications of proposed changes from both technological and business perspectives Hosts presentations workshops focus groups or interviews to gather requirements or to communicate about business process or system changes in order to manage stakeholder expectations and facilitate effective business transformation This position will be exposed to confidential and sensitive institutional information therefore confidentiality of information content during analysis and the ability to strategically communicate the results of sensitive information analysis is of utmost importance. May be required to supervise or orient casual or contract staff MUST HAVES v This position requires a four-year degree from an accredited institution recognized in v Canada plus a minimum of 5 years demonstrated business analysis experience. Certification in the Business Analysis Body of Knowledge (BABOK) is highly preferred.
