Sr. Accountant

This position is located at the Antelope Mine and the Cordero Rojo Mine. Summary of Position This position is responsible for a variety of accounting responsibilities related to Cloud Peak Energy s Site Finance Department. This position will also support the corporate finance group. Under the guidance and supervision of the Site Controller the primary role of the Senior Accountant will focus on timely and accurate monthly close preparation of financial statements formal and ad hoc cost reports financial analysis and Sarbanes Oxley compliance. Essential Duties Responsibilities Excellent technical abilities and advanced excel and database skills. Ability to quickly learn complex ERP and accounting programs. Ability to research and problem solve. Must be committed to an accurate and timely work product. Takes responsibility for reviewing preparing and posting transactions to the general ledger account analysis and account reconciliations. Demonstrates ability to apply Generally Accepted Accounting Principles to all aspects of accounting duties. Performs account analyses and provides meaningful explanations relating to plan actual variances. Performs control activities to comply with Sarbanes-Oxley Act and maintain appropriate control documentation. Prepares work papers that are organized concise cross-referenced and supported by conclusions. Assists mine site personnel with costing planning and forecasting. Qualifications Knowledge and Relevant Experience BS BA degree in business finance or accounting 4 years of work experience in financial reporting public accounting or industry accounting Working knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) CPA or relevant masters preferred. Skills Strong written and verbal communication skills Manage competing deadlines with strong organizational skills Above average Microsoft Office (Word Excel PowerPoint) Demonstrates initiative and resourcefulness Demonstrates attention to detail Basic knowledge of overall operations and demonstrates good practical problem solving ability. Ability to apply critical thinking skills to develop logical and supported opinions. Exceptional interpersonal skills the ability to work well with people from many different disciplines with varying degrees of technical experience competence in clear concise and tactful communications with senior management clients peers and staff. The employee is required to continuously sit with frequent forward bending and rotation. The employee must frequently lift carry and or move up to 15 pounds rarely to horizontally lift up to 34 pounds and rarely lift carry and or move up to 50 pounds or swing up to 12 pounds. The employee is required to rarely push or pull up to 100 pounds of force. The employee frequently is required to use hands to finger handle or feel and reach with hands and arms occasionally use a right hand grip up to 30 pounds of force and rarely use hand at an elevated level. The employee is required continuously stand with forward bending and frequently rotating kneel and frequently to walk climb stairs crouch squat repetitively and occasionally crawl. Rarely the employee is required to squat repetitively or reach up to 74 . Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision distance vision color vision peripheral vision depth perception and ability to adjust focus. Working Environment Works in office environment and site environment. This job operates in a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers phones photocopiers filing cabinets and fax machines. Working outdoors in all weather conditions working in plant environment working in shop environment and working in the cab of equipment or vehicle.
