Well established University is looking for Sr. IT Business Analyst (Investment Proposals PMBOK Modelling Techniques Exp.) Location Athabasca AB Duration 6 Months Contract with possible extension Summary The Senor Business IT Investment Analyst works with a broad range of internal and external stakeholders to investigate the costs (e.g. implementation operation sustainment) qualitative and quantitative benefits impacts and risks associated with proposed information communication technology (ICT) investments. The position collects and or validates technical and business requirements from internal or external stakeholders formulates these into evidence-based project proposals and or business cases supported by quantitative and qualitative data and rationalizes or justifies their impact (e.g. business and technical architecture end-user) and financial value (e.g. financial costs-benefit analyses ROI). The position aggregates data and formulates ICT proposals or business cases using approved templates and in keeping with ICT Investment Governance Framework. Given the high degree of potential impact (e.g. organizational financial technological) that can result from an ICT investment the utmost degree of confidentiality and impartiality is required of the position. The contracted Resource will report to the Director of IT Strategy and Planning who will be responsible for assigning prioritizing and monitoring assigned work. Responsibilities Using business analysis techniques and tools collects technical and business requirements from internal or external stakeholders as required to formulate evidence-based ICT project proposals and or business cases Analyses data collected to define the current state and desired future state. Determines how the proposed ICT investment will impact from a variety of perspectives (e.g. financial technological organizational legal) both upon implementation and over the investment s life cycle (long-term) Develops ICT investment proposals or business cases supported by clear rationale and quantitative and qualitative evidence describing such factors as the current problem (current state) the desired outcome (future state) business objectives and measures business impacts of not undertaking the investment envisioned solution and scope project approach (e.g. phases timelines dependencies) cost-benefit summary (internal external costs budget ROI) risks impacts and assumptions Assesses and validates ICT proposals or business cases submitted by stakeholders works with stakeholders to strengthen submissions or provides rationale and evidence to justify why a submission is of low-value or high-risk. May be required to justify findings or conclusions in front of governing bodies Performs milestone checks on approved projects or evaluates them upon their completion to validate the value realized against the value proposed in their approved business case Ensures all documentation and assets resulting from assigned responsibilities are stored in repositories kept up-to-date and are readily accessible to stakeholders with the appropriate permissions Tracks time in adopted time tracking system MUST HAVES Candidates should possess a four-year degree in Computing Science Information Systems Business or related disciplines from an accredited institution recognized in Canada plus possess a minimum of 5 years demonstrable experience in business and or financial analysis. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered. Expertise in financial analysis (e.g. cost-benefit analysis ROI) tools and techniques Expertise in requirements gathering and business analysis tools and techniques Excellent interpersonal and communication skills (e.g. written oral visual) Ability to articulate ideas to both technical and non-technical individuals Knowledge of enterprise architectural principles Advanced knowledge in Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Word Preferred Certification in the Business Analysis Body of Knowledge (BABOK) Certification in the Project Management Body of Knowledge (PMBOK) or understanding of project management methodology Understanding of systems development methodology (e.g. systems analysis design testing and implementation) Understanding of business theory Understanding of post-secondary environments.
