Psychiatric Aid Caregiver Companion Live In This position is for a Psychiatric Aid Caregiver Companion. It is a live in position for a female psychiatric patient and thus requires a female applicant. Patient Information The patient is a 26 year old female with a diagnosis of Schizophrenia. She has not adhered to her medication plan resulting in mania delusional thinking poor decision making and compromised ability for self-care. She is fully capable of tending to her own personal needs (bathing toilet eating) but needs direction and assistance in maintaining a clean and safe environment. She also requires direction and guidance relative to appropriate social behavior. She has historically been verbally directable redirectable. She had not historically been prone to violence but can become combative if subjected to physical interventions (pushing shoving grabbing pulling). Her general demeanor is very friendly and caring. She could be described as childlike in many ways. The patient does smoke tobacco and marijuana (smoking is allowed outdoors only). Job Description Observe Monitor behavior at residence to assure the patient does not disrupt the general environment. This includes but is not limited to assuring the volume of electronic devices are at an appropriate level assuring smoking is done in an authorized area and redirecting the patient relative to the volume of her voice and or persons she might attempt to strike up conversations with. Housekeeping Laundry. This may or may not be done in collaboration with the patient. The most important thing is assuring the environment is safe and clean. The patient s involvement in that process while desirable is not necessary. Cooking Meal Preparation. This may or may not be done in collaboration with the patient depending on the immediate need and the patient s ability to focus on the task. Companionship. This includes but is not limited to being available to talk doing tasks together shopping or going on outings together etc. Whenever possible the caregiver should be socially engaged with the patient. Maintaining House Rules. Minimal house rules relating to guests and activities at the residence will be set in place and the Aid Caregiver Companion will redirect the patient as necessary to assure she conforms to those rules. Compensation This is an independently contracted live-in position and is compensated with a free room in the patient s apartment and shared access to kitchen bathroom living room and laundry. Board (Food) is provided. NOTE Unusual or exotic dietary needs may be excluded. Exact details for food to be negotiated. Access to internet. Access to cable TV. Regularly scheduled days off. Qualifications This position is well suited for a retired person who may have a limited income stream and could benefit from a position providing basic room and board. Experience working with the mentally ill is a plus. Must be able to pass a background check. A strong personality and the ability to take charge lead and direct are critical traits. Must have good verbal communication skills. Must be able to assess quickly changing circumstances and develop strategies and action plans as events unfold to assure patient safety and an acceptable environment for nearby public. Additional Details Location of residence is in Lynnwood Washington. A start date has not been established though we will want to start as soon as possible. The application process has three phases.
