Oversee safe transportation of students and ensure a safe work environment for employees. Perform and coordinate projects for the Transportation Department related to transportation operations. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES To perform this job successfully an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Job Tasks Descriptions 1.Assist with supervision of transportation department staff to include hiring discipline evaluations and terminations. Also assists with directing work assigning work professional development and conflict resolution. 2.Directly supervises department training staff and oversee training program. 3.Communicate with parents District administration and staff as necessary regarding transportation issues. Advise District staff of the practices and procedures for ensuring the safe transport of students. 4.Ensure all employees obtain proper certification and credentials and oversee the monitoring of credentials and the scheduling of training. 5.Organize and maintain Drug and Alcohol testing program. 6.Conduct the accident reviews and track that follow-up action has been taken. 7.Promote a productive workplace environment through shared goals mutual respect employee recognition and equal opportunity. 8.Address and resolve student discipline problems involving busing. 9.Establish develop and maintain positive working relationships with District leadership to improve school bus transportation safety. 10.Address and resolve employee issues. 11.Oversee the maintenance and confidentiality of Transportation Department records. 12.Ensure safe working condition for transportation personnel by analyzing data identify trends of safety concerns and communicate safety concerns and trends with staff. 13.Develop and implement transportation strategy department policies goals objectives and procedures with the Transportation Supervisor and District personnel. 14.Oversee the process for bus stops for safety and efficiency. 15.Perform other duties as assigned. EDUCATION AND RELATED WORK EXPERIENCE Some college preferred Minimum of three (3) years school district experience in transportation operations Minimum of 3 years transportation supervisory experience is preferred with an emphasis on training route driving and student management. Experience in technical environment using technical information and processes to make decisions Excellent communication skills both verbally and written Experience and proficiency with Microsoft Office products (Excel Word PowerPoint Outlook and Access) and transportation industry-specific software (routing software Gas Boy Fuel Master Fleet Software Time Force Time Card System etc.) LICENSES REGISTRATIONS or CERTIFICATIONS and TESTING REQUIREMENTS Criminal background check and driving record check required for hire Commercial driver s license (CDL) B with P2S endorsements. Must meet District insurability requirements A copy of current driving record at time of hire Compliance with Drug Free Pre-hire and Random drug testing conducted throughout duration of assignment CPR and First Aid certifications DOT Physical TECHNICAL SKILLS KNOWLEDGE & ABILITIES Good interpersonal oral and written communication skills Knowledge of school bus training programs Good customer service and public relations skills Maintain current knowledge of transportation issues policies and procedures Knowledge of Federal State and local transportation rules and regulations Knowledge and experience with fleet maintenance and routing software Knowledge of all District bus stop locations and routes Knowledge of passenger vehicles and related equipment Ability to work effectively with diverse staff at all levels in all departments Ability to plan and organize work at times with interruptions Ability to solve problems and make decisions quickly according to guidelines with consideration of safety and health of others MATERIALS AND EQUIPMENT OPERATING KNOWLEDGE Operating knowledge of and ability to drive buses Operating knowledge of and experience with personal computers and peripherals Operating knowledge of and experience with typical office equipment such as telephones copier fax machine E-mail etc. Operating knowledge of and experience with school bus transportation equipment (ie. Wheelchair restraints Besi seats etc.) Supervisory responsibilities include hiring disciplining terminating directing work assigning work training and evaluating. PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS & WORKING CONDITIONS The physical demands work environment factors and mental functions described below are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. The employee is occasionally exposed to moving mechanical parts fumes or airborne particles toxic or caustic chemicals vibration. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
