Gout Research Study

The purpose of this research study is to see whether subjects with gout who receive febuxostat or allopurinol (for up to 9 years) have a higher rate of serious heart and blood vessel complications (major cardiovascular events). Examples of major cardiovascular events include heart attacks strokes and angina (chest pain due to narrowing of the blood vessels of the heart) that need to be treated urgently with a heart operation. Consider the following criteria for possible participation in a local clinical research study Men 50 years of age or older Women 55 years of age or older Diagnosed with gout History of heart disease (includes chest pain stroke blocked arteries diabetes) If you or a loved one qualifies to participate in the study you will receive Investigational medication Study related care from a local doctor Possible compensation for time and travel Space is limited.
