Don t Settle For An Inferior Skylight

Unfortunately you can buy a cheap skylight. But what you get is a cheap skylight. The last place you want an inferior product is on your roof. At Skylight Specialist Inc. we only use high-quality materials in the production of our skylights. We do not use acrylic because it is an inferior product and does not have the insulating qualities of tempered glass. Our skylights are also made with the flashing attached to assure a no-leak skylight with the added benefit of easy installation. Skylights can provide the interior of your home with the warmth and brightness of natural daylight and can have a dramatic impact on your interior. A well placed skylight can brighten a dark corner or an interior room without windows. It can also transform a room with good natural light into an indoor outdoor stunner. A vented skylight has the added benefit of air circulation. To get the most benefit from a skylight positioning is key. A north-facing skylight will provide fairly constant illumination. An east-facing skylight will provide maximum light. For passive solar heat gain in the winter a south-facing skylight is the best choice but it will also produce some heat gain in the summer. If this side of the roof is shaded then the issue is mute. Skylights come in a wide variety of sizes and can be fixed (will not open) or vented (can open). Since hot air rises a vented skylight allows warm air rising toward the ceiling to escape providing a natural cooling element on hot days. Higher quality skylights are made with tempered or laminated glass. Tempered glass is the most impact resistant. On the other hand plastic acrylic surfaces scratch easily and may become brittle discolored or stained. For these reasons we do not produce acrylic skylights or domes.
