Let s start with the reasons skylights continue to be a great home improvement choice Skylights add natural light air circulation (if vented) and have the added benefit of making a room look larger and more appealing. At Skylight Specialist we use the best materials to produce a quality skylight that will not leak and is easy to install.Unfortunately there are some skylights out there that are not made with quality in mind. There are also good skylights that are installed incorrectly and therefore will not function properly. Here are some of the things you should know about skylights and why it is so important to deal with a reputable firm that produces and installs skylights. Our Service Department goes on many service calls to replace older and sometimes inferior products. We handle many kinds of skylight issues for our customers. Here are the most common issues we hear about and these may be issues you are dealing with Leaking Skylights Unfortunately this issue is normally the result of incorrect skylight installation and not a problem with the skylight itself. Your skylight has to be properly sealed onto the roof or there will be cracks and gaps where water can find a way into your home. Sometimes the water will build up so its very important to periodically check around your skylights for moisture after heavy rain. We can fix this problem. Give us a call and let us start our diagnostics today Cracked Skylights Acrylic dome skylights are much more likely to crack than glass skylights because plastic becomes brittle over time. Typically a glass skylight would have to be hit by an object before it cracks. Either way you don t want a skylight that has cracks. It allows heat gain in the summer and heat loss in the winter and of course can allow moisture in. Also glass skylights that have cracks are unstable and should be addressed right away. Skylights that are cracked need to be replaced. If the base of the skylight is still in good condition than only the top will need to be replaced.Venting Skylights - Motorized venting skylights are becoming very popular but sometimes the motor breaks down. Very few companies have experience fixing skylight motors. We have the expertise and materials to fix most skylight motors. Don t miss out on the best feature of a venting skylight - added ventilation and air circulation.
