Position Summary The Indonesian Language Instructor position supports the Defense Language Institute Foreign Language Center (DLIFLC) that requires End of Training Enhancement courses in the form of face-to-face classroom instructional services for military DoD linguists at the Presidio of Monterey California. The End of Training Enhancement courses are designed as remedial courses for sub-proficient graduates of the DLIFLC Undergraduate Education programs whose DLPT scores have not reached the minimum graduation requirements (listening 2 reading2 speaking 1 ) in one or more of the three tested proficiency skills. Essential Functions & Responsibilities Conduct Language training to ensure students reach DLPT L2 2 or higher. Maintain Student Profile folder diagnostic assessment results proficiency goals areas to improve strategies to use and weekly recall protocol analysis. Prepare instructional materials tailored to each student s needs to meet the graduating requirements. Adhere to DLI scope sequence and curriculum plan Teach courses using current DLIFLC-Undergraduate Education to include task-based learner-centered skill-integrated project-based scenario-based and diagnostically-oriented approach and Target Language environment only. Encompass all Final Learning Objectives to support DLIFLC teaching mission military security politics economy science technology culture social issues and geography environment. Follow company Chain of Command for administrative and logistical procedures Understand the Interagency Roundtable Proficiency Levels and their relation to proficiency-based instruction. Be able to maintain a positive supportive and motivating classroom environment. Be able to create and conduct meaningful tasks and relevant to students teaching approach Be able to provide students supportive feedback as to how they are progressing towards meeting the lesson and course objectives. Be able to create learning activities which promote analysis negotiation of meaning synthesis and problem solving Be familiar with the Oral Proficiency Interview (OPI) and Defense Language Proficiency Tests (DLPT5). Understand the students current proficiency level and continually adjust the teaching to adapt to their ability with knowledge of the next steps they need to take and how to direct them there in order to reach the course outcomes. The instructor must be able to break more difficult tasks into smaller parts in order to assist the students in achieving desired outcomes. Must act as a facilitator and guide in class activities so that the majority of class time is spent in production of the target language involving all students. The students should speak and produce the language more than the teacher. Must reflect upon teaching practices policies and procedures in order to continually improve course. The class content must be current and applicable to students needs abilities and interests. Integrate learning technology seamlessly with lesson plans to enhance training delivery. Nonessential Functions Perform other duties as assigned Participates in special department projects as needed. Minimum Education Experience The Language Instructor must teach the courses independently. Must have expertise in developing target language courses in a digitized format to include multimedia resources and activities developed within task-based student-centered and skill-integrated approach. Must have the knowledge skills and ability to produce accurate assessment tools to measure learning outcomes and course success. Meet the following requirements prior to instructing students Target language proficiency Superior (3 3 or higher) as measured by ACTFL (American Council on the Teaching of Foreign Languages). Proficiency in English language Advance Low (2 2 or higher) as measured by ACTFL OPI. Test is valid for 24 months. A minimum of 3 years of recent expertise and experience teaching the target language at a college level. Bachelor s degree or higher in teaching education language or a closely related field to be approved by the client. Pass background check and maintain required security level NAC DLIFLC or higher. DLI Retiree having accepted a pay-out must wait 5 years prior to work on the contract. Knowledge Must be familiar with standard classroom technologies such as Smart Board Tech Panel tablet PC iPads and Transparent Languages CL-150 Rapid Rote resources.
