Off-Monroe Players Presents Gilbert and Sullivan s- Utopia, Ltd.

Utopia Ltd. Or The Flowers of Progress an Operetta by Gilbert & Sullivan Salem United Church of ChristBob Osgood Stage DirectorDavid Odgers Assistant Director Marcia Sheremeta Music Director Off-Monroe Players is proud to announce their production of Gilbert and Sullivan s penultimate operetta Utopia Limited. or The Flowers of Progress - a zany light-opera set in the South Seas with characters based on Anna and the King. The story involves King Paramount and his love Lady Sophy his pioneering daughter Princess Zara her two beautiful little sisters Princesses Nekaya and Kalyba and their escort First Life Guards one Public Exploder and of course the island natives of Utopia. First produced in 1893 this late effort viciously lampoons some of the more newfangled forms capitalism had taken in Great Britain during the 1900s and satirizes much of what we see in our U.S. government today. Utopia Limited will be performed at Salem United Church of Christ 60 Bittner Street Rochester NY 14604. The show will run for six performances over two weekends May 10th thru 12th and May 17th thru 19th Fridays and Saturdays at 7 30 PM and Sundays at 2 00 PM.
