Immigration Counselor (part-time) - Compensation: $22,400-$24,00

Deadline 7 22 13 Primary Purpose To provide legal immigration services in the NC Immigration and Refugee Program including eligibility screenings application completion advocacy and follow up as necessary. Essential Duties Conduct eligibility screenings for refugee and asylee applicants for immigration benefits. Conduct intake interviews with clients in order to complete applications for benefits. Assist clients in completing their immigration applications including Application for Permanent Resident (I-485) Refugee Petition for Alien Relative (I-730) and Application for Naturalization (N-400). Contribute to fund-raising and resource development initiatives. Compile application packets in an accurate fashion to ensure that all required evidence is attached and review supporting documentation - including birth certificates marriage certificates translations etc. - for authenticity. Develop and maintain accurate case list and manage case files. Identify potential barriers to accessing immigration benefits and provide support and advocacy to overcome such barriers. Coordinate the provision of information and outreach to the refugee community regarding immigration benefits. Stay abreast of developments in immigration laws and changes in procedures. Attend legal immigration trainings as necessary. Perform other related duties as requested. Qualifications Education Bachelor s degree or equivalent professional experience Experience Previous accreditation with the Board of Immigration Appeals (BIA) desired but not necessary.
