UPDATE Jan 2016 Dooby has grown up to be a strapping young man pigeon and he has married Newark another beautiful King Pigeon. Dooby loves to show off for her and they are a very romantic couple Dooby (the dyed green one on the right) was found on 9 21 as a skinny hungry helpless baby left outside a mausoleum in San Leandro. Bred to meat (squab) he is a King Pigeon who was bought from a live poultry market and most likely released at the mausoleum in order to honor someone who died. But releasing a helpless domestic pigeon like a baby King Pigeon is terribly cruel. They have no ability to survive in the wild. Who knows- Dooby may have been one of many that were released. He s the only that was rescued though. He was too young to self-feed and was a skinny sad baby until we paired him with Whimsy who he loves She was also rescued (one of two found in a park in Oakland but the other died overnight) and needed a friend. Now they ae inseperable. We call them childhood sweethearts. They are doing great healing and growing and recovering from the trauma.
