On February 29th we received a phone call from a concerned woman who had discovered a badly injured stray cat near her home. Lieutenant Dan likely had encountered a car engine as the lower portion of his front right leg was severed off and he had assorted cuts and scrapes. With his leg bone exposed we instantly rushed him to our friends over at Glenpark Animal Hospital. In order to bring this tiny 1 year old some much needed comfort Lieutenant Dan will undergo a leg amputation today ridding himself of painful memories and starting life anew with a fresh start. Lieutenant Dan is just one of thousands of homeless cats trying their hardest to survive alone in Muskegon County. With area shelters and rescues stretched beyond capacity these fragile creatures have to muster up a strength to navigate the day to day- searching for meager scraps of food...seeking warmth and shelter when the winds and precipitation blow....all while trying to avoid dangers and hazards- alone. But as this furry little boy s counterpart in the movies learned everyone needs help from a friend. Will you be that friend for Lieutenant Dan < 3Update Surgery was a success Lieutenant Dan doesn t know it yet but he is going to be feeling A LOT better. He s still groggy from the pain meds but is already looking leaps and bounds better. More cuts and scrapes were found along his body during surgery along with burns to his paw pads which more and more points to an unfortunate encounter with a car engine. He was also treated to a neuter and was cleaned and treated from a heavy load of ear mites.
